When sisters share the same pulsating passion, vision and love for art, a promising venture takes shape with much ease and aplomb. Nilakshi Roy and Debalina Gupta founded The Sisters’ Trunk, inspired by their father, Sarojendu Gupta, a rural development expert. They chose 26 July 2024 as their launch date as their father would have been 95 that day.
Nilakshi Roy, a retired professor from Mumbai, is a passionate saree lover, lover of interior design, and writer. Her 100 Saree posts were phenomenally followed by many. She has written papers on culture studies related to the saree and the choli.
Debalina Gupta, a senior programme manager in the National Health Service UK, settled in the UK for the last 25 years. Proud about her Indian roots, passionate about sarees and ethnic Indian wear and jewellery.
The venture brings textiles, mostly cotton or silk sarees, some designed specially by the sisters and the weaver/ painter / embroiderer. They also bring to the board furnishings and decor, accessories like Potli bags and tote bags, dhokra jewellery and ready to wear, gender neutral garments, like pants, shirts, jackets, shrugs, long dresses, skirts, kurtas, stoles, dupattas etc.
THE SISTERS’ TRUNK has their first exhibition on 9th, 10th, 11th August in the Scout Hall, Shivaji Park, Dadar, as part of the Krystal Events Lifestyle Exhibition, stall 26C.
